serious is this? we'll have the details. and paul ryan hasn't helped mitt romney a bit in wisconsin. now the congressman may have trouble hanging on to his own house seat. john nichols will join me with that. we'll be right back. >>> thanks for staying with us tonight. four days out, and the state of the race favors president obama. seriously. now if you look at it, it is never a lock, never going to be a lock. but the facts are here, in the swing states offering president obama is a clear path to victory. he's ahead in the polls and he's rising. in ohio, you've got president obama, he's been leading all along, and as you can see in the latest poll, averaged from real clear politics, he still is. this is why mitt romney is desperately campaigning in pennsylvania. it is a hail mary pass because he knows he's probably going to lose ohio. in wisconsin, president obama maintains a comfortable five-point lead. president obama is also maintaining his lead in nevada. in iowa, president obama is still ahead. the national average is closer, but president obama has been on the rise there as well.

a message for the world that's watching. we are going to elect mitt romney and paul ryan president and vice president of the united states. >> welcome back to the "the ed show." that of course was the ohio governor last night. he and other conservatives, they're living basically i think in a state of denial. they are casting aside every poll and trying to create this narrative out there that they are just in great shape in the buckeye state. this latest poll tells a different story. the president leads by 6 points. it will be tough for mitt romney to make up that kind of ground in the final days. >> sean hannity, this date has flipped from the blue column to the red column. mitt romney will win ohio and he's going to win ohio easily. >> holy smokes. meanwhile karl rove is acting like mitt romney has already got the thing all wrapped up. >> for the president to have wiped out his victory margin by poor performance in the early voting and the republicans are going to take election day, boeds well for romney for election day. i think ohio is going to be a squeaker, maybe 80, 100, 110,000 vote

[applause] but, you know, a lot of the commentary focused on the nostalgia republicans seem to feel for the golden age. as i describe in my title, and we can say that that is racism or sexism and some of it no doubt is. but i think it's important for us as progressives, those of us here that are progressive i hope we have some republicans, too. i think it's important to think about the golden age was and that there was a golden age for some americans and it coincided with my growing up. i felt like i was the last generation of people to whom the country really kept its promises. although with mitt romney and paul ryan got elected they would break the promise is since just under 55. we will have a chance to break promises to feel like it will be great. but, the golden age when we think about it it really was the result of the great depression and wor

, paul ryan, were determined to carry on campaigning even though the president was going back to washington and suddenly at midday trfs an announce from the campaigning, because of the sensitivity of millions of americans facing this emergency from the hurricane, mitt romney and paul ryan are canceling all their events for today and for tomorrow. and so it turns out this will be the last time that mitt romney will be seen on the stomp in public probably for a couple of days. so he's taking himself completely out of the picture. in ohio it's been clear from the speeches that they don't think they clinched -- this is a critical state. he needs ohio to become president. and these rallies are important to get people to talk to their friends and relatives to encourage them to vote or encourage them which from thinking they might vote for mr. obama to mr. romney and that doesn't seem to be happening right now. i think it ought to be hurting the campaign a bit. >> mark, very briefly. this is really a chance for the president to explore that illusive quality of presidential leadership
will be better than the past. [applause] if paul ryan and i are elected we will endeavor with all our hearts and energy to restore america. instead of more spending and more borrowing and more taxes, we'll renew our faith in the power of free people. we'll have a plan for a stronger middle class that has five elements. one we're going to put america on track to a balanced budget by eliminating unnecessary programs and send programs back to state and by shrinking the bureaucracy in washington. number two, we'll produce more of the energy we need to heat our homes, fill our cars and make our economy grow. we will stop the obama war on coal and the effort to crimp natural gas and the very technology that produces it. [applause] we're going to support nuclear and renewables and phase out once an industry is on its feet. and rather than vesting in solar we'll invest in signs science and research and by 2020 we will achieve north american energy independence.
